What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a TCM technique that involves the burning of mugwort (artemisia vulgaris), a small and spongy herb, to facilitate healing. The herb is burnt and placed (either directly or indirectly) on the body to generate heat at specific acupoints, to allow the medicinal properties to penetrate the body to warm the meridians.
What does Moxibustion do?
Moxibustion helps to increase blood circulation, dispel cold, tonify energy and stimulate digestive system function as well as boost the immune system. It is also generally good for spleen, stomach and kidney care.
Moxibustion is used for a variety of health conditions. It can be used to treat health issues where there are deficiencies of energy such as chronic fatigue syndrome as well as certain types of IBS disorders and diarrhoea. Moxibustion is beneficial in the treatment of arthritic conditions and joint pain, and is often used in woman’s health disorders such as infertility, ovarian cysts and menstrual cramps. It is also beneficial in improving poor sperm motility and impotence.
